The name Trani derives from Tirenum o Turenum. It's said that the town was founded by Tirreno, Diomede's son and reconstructed by Traiano emperor. Trani is an important town rich of history and traditions, but it's also an important administrative and judicial seat.

The Cathedral construction, dedicated to San Nicola Pellegrino, began in 1099 and ended in 1185. It's composed of three churches: San Leucio "ipogeo"; Santa Maria della Scala and San Nicola Pellegrino crypts; the superior church.

Trani castle was founded in 1233 under the order of Federico II. It has a rectangular planimetry, rectangular towers with different misures.

Trani port is one of the most organised in the South Adriatic sea. It's a harbour. In the port quarter there are many restaurants, "pizzerie", and souvenir-shops.
